Pediatric autoimmune diseases: Kawasaki disease, juvenile dermatomyositis and juvenile localized scleroderma
Less common manifestations of childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE) that lead to organ dysfunction may pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges to even the most seasoned pediatric provider. This session will focus on small vessel and systemic inflammatory complications with significant morbidity and mortality rates. Faculty will focus on thrombotic microangiopathies (TMA) seen in cSLE (specifically thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura-like disease), and macrophage activation syndrome (MAS). They will utilize a case-based approach to review epidemiology, diagnostic pearls and rational therapeutic schema of both TMA and MAS.
