Dr. Barnado is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Rheumatology & Immunology and Research Director of the Lupus Clinic at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Dr. Barnado received her medical degree from Emory University before completing her internal medicine residency at Duke University and clinical rheumatology fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). At MUSC, Dr. Barnado worked with a predominantly African American SLE cohort to investigate health disparities in SLE. After fellowship, Dr. Barnado joined the faculty at Vanderbilt, where she completed a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation. Her current research interests include leveraging the electronic health record to understand why different SLE patients have different disease outcomes and treatment responses. She currently holds a K08 in using the electronic health record to risk-stratify patients with SLE. She also collaborates with a PCORI multi-center, research group to use the electronic health record to assess pregnancy outcomes in women with SLE.
