Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine
A second year medical student at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine, Shawn Chakraborty, BS. has a demonstrated committment and passion for general surgery. Shawn was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and spent much of his time growing up in Peoria, Illinois. While an undergraduate at the University of Illinois Urbana-Chamapaign, Shawn was exposed to surgery through time observing Pediatric Surgeons at the Children's Hospital of Illinois (CHOI). After undergrad, Shawn pursued a year-long research fellowship at the Children's Hospital working with these pediatric general surgeons and general surgery residents focusing on surgical outcomes in pediatric patients, further affirming his passion for surgery. Upon his matriculation at ACOM, Shawn has continued to work on projects with the surgical team and is an active member in the Surgical Interest Group. Shawn plans to continue his research on outcomes in pediatric surgical patients while he focuses on demonstrating a strong commitment to the field of surgery and his ultimate goal of pursuing a general surgery residency. Outside of medicine, Shawn enjoys bass fishing, hunting, golf and partakes in a competitive softball league with fellow students at ACOM.
