Window related water infiltration is a leading construction defect and a major cause of litigation. Defects are often related to window selection, detailing, workmanship, and installation. The presentation will review window selection and the difference between performance grades and Design Pressures, and the laboratory performance testing that defines the grades. The speakers will identify how actual in-place performance is highly dependent on the detailing, and the contractor’s workmanship and installation methods. The presentation will review industry standard methods of flashing and installing windows which vary based upon installation sequence, adjacent cladding types, and level of flashing redundancy. After reviewing product selection and product installation, the presentation will review commonly observed window field test failures and case studies.
