Certain provisions in the ADA Accessibility Standards are not easy to understand or are prone to misinterpretation. In this session, a presenter from the U.S. Access Board, which is responsible for providing technical guidance on the standards, will review and clarify these “hot spots” in the standards. The presenter will untangle common sources of confusion and answer frequently asked questions, including those concerning application of the standards in new construction, employee work areas, toilet rooms, vertical access, signs, detectable warnings, and other topics. Plenty of time will be allotted for your own questions.
Learning Objectives:
Design ADA compliant single user toilet rooms and rooms with toilet compartments.
Determine when an elevator is required, when a limited-use limited-access (LULA) elevator may be used and when a wheelchair lift may be used.
Determine how much accessibility is required in employee common use spaces and employee work spaces.
Use the ADA Standards for Accessible Design and understand the difference between scoping requirements and technical requirements.
