Dr. Diaz is a tenured Professor of Surgery with secondary appointment in the Department of Epidemiology, and Public Health. Dr. Diaz is board certified in general surgery, surgical critical care, and adult nutrition support. His clinical expertise is board and wide with chest wall trauma, complex ventral hernia / abdominal wall reconstruction, fistula managment, and acute / chronic pancreatitis. His research focus has been in the critically ill or onjured adult patient. Current research focus on resuscitation of the septic patient. He is a noted researcher with current industry funding and has over 160 peer-reviewed publications, books, and book chapters. He is a master educator and mentor having received the Department of Surgery “Senior Teaching Award” three separate times. He is the Program Director of the Acute Care Surgery Fellowship, which is the most competitive program in the country.
Dr. Diaz is currently the President of the Maryland Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
