Dr. deRoon-Cassini is an Associate Professor of Surgery, Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine, & Institute for Health & Society at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She is also newly named as the Director of the Comprehensive Injury Center at MCW, which is a center dedicated to injury prevention, research, clinical care, education, and community engagement.
She is a health psychologist with clinical and research focus on psychological distress after traumatic injury. Dr. deRoon-Cassini’s research program focuses primarily on identifying the early factors that influence the development of posttraumatic stress disorder versus resilience after traumatic injury. Additionally, she is director of the trauma psychgology program which provides inpatient and outpatient clinical care to trauma and acute care surgery patient at Froedtert Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center.
The overall research agenda of Dr. deRoon-Cassini’s lab is to establish psychological, neurological, and biological processes that increase risk for or identify mechanisms of distress in the traumatic injury population, particularly for survivors of trauma who are living in violent communities, as they are most at risk for poor health outcomes.
