Organized Panel Session
This is a designated panel sponsored by the Council of Conferences (COC). The panel consists of graduate student papers that received best paper prizes from AAS-affiliated regional conferences and selected by the COC to present on this panel. Drawing on perspectives from history, sociology, and political science, the papers address a range of topics including state-led industrialization, cross-national education, political exile, social media, ethnic relations, and war. Together, they examine the interconnection of self and other, shedding light on identity, change, and conflict within and across borders in Asia. The panel should be of particular interest to students of the political economy of China, education in India and the United States, Korean diaspora, history of US-Japan relations, and ethnic relations in Sri Lanka.
