Because of having particularly important geopolitical position in East Asian region, Vietnam has been the first country in strategy of making cultural influence of power nations such as Japan and China. Since the beginning of 21st century, a large number of Japan’s and China’s popular cultural products have been introduced and popularized in Vietnam such as movies, literature, music and cuisine. This reception on the one hand is due to the influence of Japan’s and China’s cultural diplomacy in Vietnam. On the other hand, it also comes from the increasing demand for cultural enjoyment of the Vietnamese people. However, the favorite level and reception of Vietnamese people for popular cultural products from Japan and China is different. In some cases, the popularity in quantity and type of popular cultural product of a country in Vietnam is not in accordance with its positive cultural influence here. This paper focuses on making comparison between Japan’s and China’s cultural influences in Vietnam from perspective of popular cultural products, in which emphasizing on evaluation of the effectiveness of Japan’s cultural product export strategy.
