Dr. Marco Huisman currently holds the position of Technology Advisor at Heerema Marine Contractors, a world leading marine contractor in the international offshore oil and gas and renewables industry. After completing a PhD in engineering geology and working as a geologist from the Spanish coast to the high Himalayas, Marco Huisman moved to the offshore oil and gas industry in 2005 working on geotechnical engineering, hydrodynamics and ice loading for Arctic structures. After joining Heerema in 2011, Marco took up on the underwater piling noise issue and has been the company’s expert on this topic, and is involved in development projects, consent processes and offshore installations. As a keen scuba diver Marco is well acquainted with the value of marine life, and this is a personal motivation in trying to reduce noise emissions underwater.
