Daniel A. Carestio was named Chief Operating Officer of STERIS Aug. 1, 2018. STERIS is a leading provider of infection prevention and procedural products and services, focused primarily on healthcare, pharmaceutical and research and medical device Customers. The company was founded in 1987 and has approximately 12,000 employees globally. Its operational headquarters is located in Mentor, Ohio, USA.
Mr. Carestio is responsible for all STERIS operating businesses. Prior to being appointed to COO, he served as Senior Vice President, Sterilization and Disinfection, and led the Life Sciences, Applied Sterilization Technologies (AST), and Infection Prevention Technologies business units, a role he assumed in February 2018. From August 2015 to February 2018, he served as Senior Vice President, STERIS AST and Life Sciences.
From 2011 to August 2015, Mr. Carestio served as Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Isomedix Services (precursor to AST) and General Manager of Life Sciences. Prior to that, he served in several Customer facing and strategy roles in Isomedix Services. He began his career at STERIS in 1997 as an Associate Product Manager for Life Sciences Sterility Assurance Products.
Mr. Carestio has been instrumental in STERIS’s business development strategy and acquiring and integrating various products and services businesses that now make up STERIS. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from North Carolina State University.
