I have had the pleasure of spending the last 20 years as first a GP user, but mostly as a GP Administrator & SQL DBA working with a Partner. Through this experience I have installed, upgraded, or managed over 300 GP environments across 13 different versions of the product. I was really inspired by the Excel GP Admin Dashboard presented last year at GPUG Summit by Steve Erbach and Steve Endow. I have also been heavily inspired by Belinda Allen’s GP-based Excel and Power BI dashboarding. As a self-admitted ‘data wrangler’ or ‘citizen developer,’ Power BI seemed like a great place to create my all-in-one dashboard so I can ‘view’ as much of a GP ecosystem as possible in one spot - either through the Power BI Desktop, or through individual browser tiles or an iPad (my favorite). Evaluating a GP environment is like speed-dating the data through the process of a system audit (e.g. doing lots of window lookups, SQL queries, getting server logins, waiting for proper access, etc.) to see just exactly what’s installed, configured, used, not used, upgraded, not upgraded, good, junk, etc. Then comes the need to put together a plan to upgrade and/or support the environment moving forward. I believe my sharing the benefits this uniquely-styled Power BI GP Admin Dashboard project with the greater GP User Community could help other GP Administrators or Power Users by exposing a friendly tool available through O365 capable of reporting, monitoring, or inquiry access to people outside of the Dynamics GP application. This All-In-One Admin dashboard exposes, highlights and transforms otherwise super-boring data into something visual, useful and actionable for a GP administrator, manager or user. I invite you to come to this session, see what it’s about, and then offer your feedback so I know what everyone thinks and what should be built out next!
