Senior Policy Associate
NW Energy Coalition
Joni has led the NW Energy Coalition’s efforts in Washington state since 2014. The NW Energy Coalition is a collaboration of more than 100 organizations, utilities, businesses, and tribes dedicated to building a flexible, efficient, clean and equitable electricity future. Founded in 1980, the Coalition has led regional efforts to establish a new energy strategy for the PNW based on efficiency, renewables, protection of fish and wildlife and advocacy for low income populations. The Coalition has played a lead role in a series of energy victories in the Pacific Northwest, including the Washington’s I-937 efficiency/RPS law in 2006, the Oregon 50% by 2040 RPS expansion, and this year’s passage of Washington’s Clean Energy Transformation Act, which prohibits coal-fired energy by 2025, and requires at least 80% of electricity come from renewable and non-emitting generation resources by 2030 and 100% by 2045.
Joni moved to Washington from Arizona, where she worked in the solar industry and with Arizona State University’s Global Institute on Sustainability. Prior to working in the energy sector, she worked for the City of Phoenix, Maricopa Association of Governments, Valley Forward Association and served on the boards of several non-profits.
