Jacob Susman is a successful investor, founder-CEO and entrepreneur in clean energy. He has been investing, building businesses, developing projects, and originating contracts in renewable energy since 1999.
Today, Mr. Susman is a Partner with Mission Driven Capital Partners, LLC (MDCP), which invests growth capital in companies providing products and services designed to help businesses reach their Corporate Sustainability goals. He is responsible for leading investments in environment & climate businesses.
Prior to joining MDCP, Mr. Susman founded OwnEnergy and led it from inception to its sale in August of 2015 to EDF Renewable Energy (EDFR), after spearheading development efforts that led to more than $1.5 billion of capital being invested in the company’s wind farms. OwnEnergy designed and contracted several of the original corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs). He later continued this focus on corporate PPA’s and broader Corporate Sustainability as EDFR’s VP, Head of Origination, where he led EDFR’s relationships with both corporate and utility customers around the US for the company’s wind, solar and storage portfolio.
Prior to EDFR and OwnEnergy, Jacob was a founding member of the Alternative Energy Investing Group at Goldman Sachs, where he was part of the core team that led the investment in Horizon Wind Energy. Jacob began his power sector career with The AES Corporation, in Spain, on the team that built Cartagena, a 1,200MW CCGT that was named European IPP of the Year by Euromoney.
Jacob previously served on the Board of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), the Renewable Energy Buyer’s Alliance (REBA), and the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), where he was its Treasurer and later its Secretary. He also serves on the Advisory Board of REpowering Schools, as well as several community boards.
Jacob holds an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
