Philip J. Dion is vice president, Customer Solutions and Policy Insights, for American Electric Power Company.
In this role, Dion is responsible for developing and refining business strategies for new products and services that better anticipate and meet the evolving needs of customers, including electric vehicles, energy storage and energy management platforms. He also recommends regulatory and legislative changes necessary to bring those products and services to market.
Dion joined AEP in 2015 as vice president, Technology Business Development. He focused on emerging and existing technologies combined with business development strategies to prepare the company for the changing expectations of its utility customers.
Before joining AEP, Dion was senior vice president, Public Policy and Customer Solutions, at UNS Energy Corp. He was responsible for directing and executing regulatory and legislative strategy at the federal and state levels for UNS Corp. and its subsidiaries, Tucson Electric Power and UniSource Energy Services. He also oversaw customer service and engagement, marketing, corporate communications, customer programs and community relations. Dion joined UNS Energy Corp. in 2008 as vice president of Legal and Environmental Services and became vice president of Public Policy in 2010.
Prior to joining the utility industry, Dion served as chief of staff and chief legal advisor to Commissioner Marc Spitzer of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Before Spitzer’s appointment to the FERC, Dion served as his advisor at the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC). Dion also was an administrative law judge at the ACC and a prosecutor with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
Dion has a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Arizona and a Juris Doctorate and Master of Business Administration in finance from Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, Calif.
