Large-scale solar projects live or die by their ability to perform according to quantifiable metrics, but there is a lack of general agreement about how to define key terms, like ground coverage ratio and power density. Session attendees will take away a clear understanding of three system design characteristics that affect site utilization: (1) spacing between modules, (2) spacing between tracker blocks and, most importantly, (3) the tracker’s ability to scale down and fill small, irregular plots of land. This session will discuss a method for calculating optimal site utilization. In addition, it will describe site utilization for two different scenarios at a project site: one using a traditional, motor-driven tracker system with a minimum of 3 strings per tracker block and another using the Sunfolding T29 with 1- and 2-string blocks.
