Category: Energy Storage
Humanity's goal is transformation of the world's largest industry from ~ 85% fossil to ~ 100 renewable, CO2-emission-free (CEF) energy sources, as quickly as we prudently and profitably can: near-total decarbonization of all sectors of the entire energy system, economy, and industry.
This will be challenging if we expect to operate civilization on variable generation (VG) sources like wind and solar.
Although we can accomplish this entirely with electricity systems, the global system may be technically and economically inferior to global systems based on the carbon-free fuels, hydrogen (H2) and anhydrous ammonia (NH3): pipeline transmission costs less than electricity transmission; we can store VG energy at < $ 1.00 / kWh capital cost.
This will be transformative and disruptive and beneficial, at global scale.
We now need to build R&D & Demonstration projects to discover and commercialize these advantages.
