Since the mid-1990s NREL has been actively leading an ASTM subcommittee on radiometry standards development. Radiometric standards contribute to higher accuracy in the measurement of solar resources available to conversion systems and for the development and improvement of models. These models can then provide long-term geographical distribution of solar resources for areas where measured solar data are not available. Further, these standards play a preeminent role in all aspects of solar energy projects including standard conditions, methods and instrumentation, accelerated testing and service lifetime of materials systems. ASTM standards support the present and future deployment of solar conversion systems. In this poster, we will show how we -
1. Work with industry to develop standards that assure quality measurements of solar radiation.
2. Develop and maintain unique measurement quantities, instruments, and techniques that are used to validate performance of solar conversion systems.
3. Evaluate solar resource models used in designing systems for deployment.
4. Enable standardized solar radiation calibrations and measurements to provide measurements of known quality.
