Mr. Wright has over twelve years of renewables and energy storage experience. Mr. Wright leads the Energy Storage team at CEA. Since joining the energy storage sector in 2009, he has developed applications and use cases for renewables integration, load shifting, frequency regulation, demand charge reduction and self-consumption in the utility scale, C&I and residential segments. His energy storage experience includes system design, equipment selection, and technology evaluation of numerous lithium ion and emerging battery technologies to identify best-in-breed solutions from various countries.
Prior to joining CEA, Mr. Wright led engineering teams supporting large scale renewable projects, primarily directing EPC activities with both Origis Energy and Black & McDonald. Collectively, Mr. Wright led various engineering and construction efforts for over 650 MW of greenfield and M&A projects in solar and wind.
At NextEra Energy, Mr. Wright began as technical support for the Desoto Next Generation Energy Center. As part of the DG team at NextEra, Mr. Wright led the E&P efforts for small-scale solar and energy storage projects and was responsible for equipment selection, warranty structuring and performance modeling for numerous project deployments, involving battery storage applications. Additionally, he performed technical due diligence on emerging battery technologies in conjunction with a renewable technology investment fund.
Prior to his six years at NextEra Energy, Mr. Wright worked at First Solar, ensuring the on-time and on-budget construction of global thin film manufacturing facilities in Germany and Malaysia.
Prior to 2006, Mr. Wright worked in quality management, engineering management and procurement for a large Tier 1 automotive supplier in the US. Mr. Wright holds a BS in Engineering from the University of West Florida and an MS in Engineering from the University of Toledo, where he completed a Master’s thesis on determining the optimal battery technology in utility scale battery energy storage applications.
