The cost & complexity of installing solar and storage today is very high. If we want to envision a future where distributed energy can be deployed rapidly at scale, we need to think beyond cost reduction of solar panels and Li-ion cells; we need to think about balance of system that has seen very minimal improvement / innovation. In tandem, the move towards de-carbonization of the home, i.e. moving towards more electric appliances, requires that we think about solutions that are future-proofed for higher loads, larger generation, and better home automation.
