Gustavo Alva, MD, is the founder and medical director of ATP Clinical Research and is a partner in private psychiatric practice with Pacific Neuropsychiatric Specialists. Dr Alva completed his residency training at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, where he served as chief resident during his final year of residency.
Dr Alva’s research has focused on new treatments for a variety of neuropsychiatric conditions, including novel compounds in Alzheimer’s disease, mild cognitive impairment, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, as well as extensive work in genetics, neuroimaging, and cultural diversity associated with them. Dr Alva is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a fellow of the American College of Geriatric Specialists. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Orange County Medical Association, and the Orange County Psychiatric Society, for which he serves on multiple committees. He was the recipient of the First Annual Senior Care Humanitarian Award as Outstanding Physician in Dementia Care and the Physician’s Recognition Award by the American Medical Association.
