Georgia L. Stevens, PhD, APRN, PMHCNS-BC, is director of P.A.L. Associates: Partners in Aging and Long-Term Caregiving. She is a nurse prescriber, psychotherapist and consultant in Washington, DC, and Maryland. For 30 years, Dr. Stevens has directed an innovative care coordination program for adult and geriatric patients with serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI) deinstitutionalized from state hospitals to the community maintaining a rehospitalization rate of 5 percent. Dr. Stevens earned her BSN. from Duke University, MSN in psychiatric nursing from The Catholic University of America and her PhD from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. She is the author or co-author of book chapters, articles and training materials exploring geriatric mental health and treatment, elder abuse and neglect, schizophrenia treatment and recovery, reduction of tobacco dependence and caregiver stress management. Dr. Stevens has received awards including an APNA Best Practice Award in the Treatment of Behavioral Disorders Associated with Dementia and an American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award. Dr. Stevens is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, Anxiety and Depression Association of America and the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, where she serves on the Clinical Psychopharmacology Institute Program Committee and the Recovery Council. She also serves on the MDQUIT Advisory Board.
