Dr. Pamela Wible is a family physician born into a family of physicians. Despite her parents’ warning not to pursue medicine, she followed her heart only to discover that to heal her patients she had to first heal her profession. Fed up with “assembly-line medicine,” Dr. Wible held town hall meetings where she invited citizens to design their ideal clinic. Open since 2005, Wible’s innovative model has sparked a populist movement that has inspired Americans to create ideal clinics and hospitals nationwide. Dr. Wible has helped more than 500 doctors launch their own ideal clinics (and especially loves helping psychiatrists launch independent practices). When not liberating doctors or treating her own patients, Dr. Wible devotes her time to medical student and physician suicide prevention. She has investigated more than 1,300 doctor suicides and her extensive database and suicide registry reveals highest-risk specialties—and solutions. Dr. Wible runs a free doctor suicide hotline and has helped countless medical students and physicians heal from anxiety, depression, PTSD, and suicidal thoughts so they can enjoy practicing medicine again. Named the 2015 Women Leader in Medicine, Dr. Wible’s pioneering work has been featured on most major news outlets, including the Washington Post, CNN, ABC, CBS, and NPR. She has delivered two TED talks and is a subject in the new documentary, Do No Harm—a film that exposes the silent epidemic of physician suicide.
