TS2 - Next-Generation Neurosteroids for the Treatment of Major Depressive Disorder: Neurobiology and Pathophysiology

Advances in understanding the pathophysiology and mechanisms of major depressive disorder (MDD) and postpartum depression (PPD) have led to the development of new antidepressants that target multiple mechanisms and may address multiple symptom domains while limiting adverse effects. This session aims to improve the clinician’s ability to distinguish between PPD and MDD as well as review the role of the GABAergic signaling pathway in the neurobiology of MDD and PPD. This session will keep clinicians up-to-date on the mechanisms of action and available efficacy and safety data surrounding next generation neurosteroids in order to implement these agents in practice.
