Dr. Nurnberger will summarize the deliberations of the Residency Education Committee of the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics over the last several years. The Committee has reviewed the existing literature and recent findings in Psychiatric Genetics and provided recommendations for the training of psychiatrists in genetic principles, methods, and results. This has clinical relevance in two areas: 1) genetic screening of patients with autism and developmental disorders; and 2) pharmacogenomic testing to support treatment decisions. Emerging areas over the next few years will also be discussed.
