Dr. Josh Woolley is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco, staff psychiatrist at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and the director of the Bonding and Attunement in Neuropsychiatric Disorders (BAND) lab. Most of his previous work has focused on the investigation of the psychological, behavioral, physiological, and neural effects of acute intranasal oxytocin (OT) in individuals with schizophrenia, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance use disorder. More recently, Dr. Woolley and his collaborators have begun exploring the therapeutic potential of MDMA and psilocybin combined with psychotherapy techniques for treating multiple psychiatric disorders. His lab recently completed an open-label pilot study of psilocybin-assisted group therapy for demoralization in long-term AIDs survivors. He is currently a site-PI for a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled multi-site phase 3 study of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for severe PTSD. In the next year, Dr. Woolley will likely be a site-PI for a multi-site phase 2/3 randomized clinical trial of psilocybin-assisted therapy as a treatment for major depressive disorder.
