Ayesha Johnson, PhD

Senior Health Researcher, Florida Department of Health in hillsborough County

Dr. Ayesha Johnson holds a Masters in Biostatistics degree from the University of the West Indies and PhD in Environmental Health & Biostatistics from the University of South Florida. She began her career in public health in Jamaica where she coordinated country-wide assessment and research efforts. She is currently the CHA/CHIP lead for the Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County (Tampa, FL), where she also serves as a subject matter expert on assessments and supports grant writing efforts. Her work includes partnerships with transportation, land use and community engagement. She also leads Hillsborough County’s Florida Healthy Babies projects. Dr. Johnson’s work includes promoting health equity. She has worked on interdisciplinary projects on HIV/AIDS/STDs in at-risk-populations, and conducting health impact assessments which help to promote equity in planning and policy.
