Kelsey Christian, MPH, CHES, CPH

Health Educator Consultant, Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough county

Kelsey received her Undergraduate degree from the University of South Florida in 2009 where she specialized in health communication and behavior change. This involved looking at health messaging and how that affected a person's behavior toward healthy choices. It was during this time that it was painfully apparent that an individual’s health outcomes hinged on their understanding and navigation of a complex medical system, language, and paperwork. While working on her MPH in Health Education at the University of South Florida, Kelsey expanded her work with health literacy by creating medical forms, signage, and health messaging that was both culturally competent and health literate. Before working at the Florida Department of Health, Kelsey used her knowledge and skills in health promotion and behavior change in both the public and private sectors. In her role at the Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough, Kelsey teaches ‘Health Literacy 101’ to the public as well as uses her expertise to create messaging and programming for all populations that is health literate. She holds a Certification in Public Health and is a Certified Health Education Specialist.
