SC7 - Theory and Design of Floating Wave Attenuators

This four-hour course will provide attendees with an understanding of how attenuators do and don’t work, the expected scale (size) of an attenuator needed to perform adequately, and the practical limitations in the use of attenuators. This course builds on the large floating structure design course but may be taken independently. The course will guide the marine designer and engineer through the planning and design of floating wave attenuators. The course will address the following:

• Site characterization and development of appropriate design criteria
  
• Theory of wave transmission past partially immersed and floating bodies, 1-D and 2-D
  
• Estimations of wave forces applied to floating bodies
  
• Structural design considerations for floating pontoons and interconnections of pontoons
  
• Design of restraining systems including piles, catenaries and Elastic moorings
  
• Product survey and case studies

This event requires an additional ticket. Attendees must be registered for the Conference (full or daily) in order to register for the short courses. Attendees will be able to earn professional development hours (PDHs).
