SC1 - Dredging 101—Fundamentals of Dredging

This four-hour course will provide attendees with interactive experience by discussing dredging operation and dredging projects. The course will help improve communication between parties involved in dredging projects to increase efficiency and effectiveness through a better understanding of equipment and operations. This course will be split into two parts:

Part 1: Equipment and Operations

• Understand what “dredging” is and what it looks like


• Most common reasons dredging is performed


• Basic knowledge of typical dredging equipment


• Understand the role of sediment management in project execution


• Broad recognition of placement alternatives


• Concept of beneficial use

Part 2: Environmental Aspects of Dredging Projects and Operations

• Distinguish between dredging for navigation, environmental, mining and flood control


• Understand environmental issues associated with dredging, transport, and disposal/placement


• Understanding regulatory framework for navigation dredging


• Monitoring objectives and challenges


• Beneficial use options for dredged material

This event requires an additional ticket. Attendees must be registered for the Conference (full or daily) in order to register for the short courses. Attendees will be able to earn professional development hours (PDHs).
