In 2004, the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) adopted “The Port of Los Angeles Code for Seismic Design, Upgrade and Repair of Container Wharves” (“POLA Seismic Code 2004”) as the seismic code for container wharf structures. The requirements of POLA Seismic Code 2004 were updated to the POLA Seismic Code 2010 to include changes in seismic design requirements and to reflect conclusions of experimental research and technical studies conducted since its original publication.
The Port intends to continuously update the POLA Seismic Code to keep pace with state of the art and practice design updates, and construction practices. This paper discusses the purpose, objective, and outline of the upcoming POLA Seismic Code 2020.
