The King County Department of Transportation solicited a design-build contract for the replacement of a floating dock for its regional water taxi in Puget Sound. The new 117-foot long mono-hull, open-cell concrete floating dock (float), with a raised aluminum pedestrian platform, allows for the simultaneous berthing of two vessels. This paper outlines the features of the float and discusses how the contractor collaborated with the owner to successfully deliver the float, within the accelerated design and fabrication schedule, while minimizing the risks to the owner and the design-build team.
