Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) candidates have the opportunity to complete an Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotation in an industry setting. An industry rotation can be a formative experience in terms of career and professional development and can greatly bolster a candidate's curriculum vitae during the post-PharmD industry fellowship process. However, obtaining an industry rotation is challenging. Limited availability, high demand, institutional exclusivity, and lack of coordinated information all contribute to a competitive landscape that can be frustrating and arcane. The purpose of this study is to elucidate the avenues through which candidates can secure an APPE rotation in industry.
This study has been submitted to the Institutional Review Board for approval. The study population will be current Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) post-PharmD industry fellows. The aim is to recruit 70 study participants. Data will be collected anonymously in an online, 14-question Qualtrics survey. Question types will consist of multiple-choice, select all that apply, and open response. Participants will be solicited via email, where they will be provided an informational recruitment letter and a link to access the survey. The results will provide more insight into the current climate of securing APPE industry rotations, assist student pharmacists in targeting their search for industry rotations, and optimize their chances of procuring one.
