The use of online media as a means to network and search for employment has dramatically increased over time. Portfolium is an online platform designed to help students showcase projects, professional skill development, and extracurricular activities as well as network and search for employment. Students in a College of Pharmacy associated with a large, academic institution participate in an Annual Performance Evaluation (APE) annually to assess their growth personally and professionally throughout the pharmacy program. The purpose of this study is to evaluate student perceptions of their learning, professional growth using Portfolium versus the APE process.
This study was approved by the Institutional Review Board at Purdue University. Participants will consist of second-(N=15), third-(N=15), and fourth (N=15) professional year pharmacy students. Written consent was obtained from all participants. Students will be provided instructions on how to use Portfolium and given one month to utilize the platform to document their professional activities. Participants will complete pre- post surveys to assess their perceptions of their learning, professional growth, and the utility of APE and Portfolium. Areas assessed include: overall professional development, leadership, career planning, cultural development, wellness/well-being, and overall learning. Second- and third year students have completed both the APE process and used Portfolium. Their perceptions will be compared to fourth year students who have not participated in the APE process.
