The iconic Lone Star is the most recognized design using the diamond shape in classic and modern quilts. This pattern features large stars constructed of dozens, even hundreds of diamond shapes that sparkle and spin. But the Lone Star is not the only design that is the diamond's best friend. There are other modern diamond quilt design variations using those Lone Star elements. These quilts look complicated, but they don't have to be. This class will offer instruction on strip piecing diamonds with strategies to match diamond seams, maintain uniform shape and angles and help the quilter finish with a flat, even quilt top. Learn to create bold, graphic quilts with 2.5 inch strips or strips in the size of your choosing. We will cover design variations including changing up the angle of the diamonds, inverting the orientation of the star blades, as well as other designs. Once students have learned the technique, they can use the materials provided for calculating quilt size by strip width and number of diamonds so you can design the diamond quilt that is right for you.
