This workshop will guide students in making their own layered quilts without glue and with minimal sewing. Heidi will demonstrate 'piecing,' layering, and quilting with this approach. Students will work through making their own compositions by layering fabric and thread. Quilts may range from 2x2' to 5x5' in scale. Great care will be taken with the creative choices behind the composition of these works, while working with a low-stress and low commitment technique. Students will be asked to consider abstraction, symbolism, and the meaning behind their creative choices. We will discuss quilting, and the way that it will impact the layered work, but the focus of the class is on piecing. The creative choices about WHERE to place something will be far more important than the effort required to place it there.
