While some people in the practice may make the choice not to agree with change, it is imperative that the leaders in the business clarify change to the extent that everyone completely understands it. Often this is done best by letting others shape it as much as possible so that they own the change instead of just feeling like it is done to them. It’s important to explore the change together so people will know how to think, act, and prioritize in the new state. Resistance will happen for a number of reasons, they don’t want to change, they don’t know how to change, they don’t believe they can make the change happen or they don’t believe our environment will support the change. These causes of resistance must be dealt with in different ways and effective coaching is important so that we can identify the actual cause and work to support others as they work through it.
