As simple as it gets, you are anemic as a result of either red blood cell loss, red blood cell lysis or lack of red blood cell production. In this lecture, we take a practical approach to identifying the underlying cause of anemia. This lecture will focus on using clinical and clinicopathologic clues to differentiate regenerative from non-regenerative anemia, hemorrhage from hemolysis, and immune-mediated from nonimmune-mediated disease.
