We’ve all heard about methodologies that follow the pattern of “X Driven Design”: Domain Driven Design, Test Drive Design, Task Driven Design, Growth Driven Design.

Introducing LDD or License Driven Design – a fresh and innovative approach to building robust, agile, and targeted apps on the Power Platform.

Licensing has always been an afterthought in the solution design process. Some time ago it made little difference – monolithic applications, CAL licensing for all users, few or no choices, and no impact on application design.

In the new era of the small agile apps, with the role-based solution design and incremental development, businesses can no longer treat license as a “side-effect”. It needs to be an integral part of the design, from the very first day. Why? Because licensing decisions:

• Have strong impact on running costs


• Affect customer acceptance


• Reinforce role- and persona- based thinking


• Support the task-oriented approach that is instrumental in creating apps-based designs


• Ignite citizen developer story, empowering the users and freeing developers to tackle truly complex tasks

Exercise
During the class we will start with a monolithic "classic" Dynamics 365 for Sales and Customer Service app where all users require Customer Engagement plan license. We will redesign the app and convert it to a suite of PowerApps taking into account users roles and personas. The end result will be a modern UX, significant cost reduction, higher adoption rate, happier users and happier business owners.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this class students will:
• Learn fundamentals of PowerApps design
• Understand basics of licensing on Power Platform
• Discover how to use licensing for the decision making during the design process
• Describe how to use roles and personas
• Build a Unified Interface app to replace legacy implementations

Audience: This course is intended for makers, customizers, and developers who would like to learn fundamentals of graduating existing Dynamics 365 solutions to the Power Platform.

Level: Intermediate

Prerequisites: Attendees must have experience in customization and configuration of Dynamics 365.

Preparation: Students will need to be able to access their own trial instance of Dynamics 365 Online during class. Detailed instructions how to provision the trials will be sent to the participants prior to the class.
