The session consists of the design process an engineer would follow using seismic dampers, in particular, friction dampers: since these devices offer significant advantages in building performance (both in new construction and retrofits), generally at the same cost as traditional alternatives. An actual case with a step by step guide will be presented, where the engineer will follow the simplified process, and which they can use in their projects along with advanced modelling validation.
The engineer will also be informed of the required testing protocols, performance specification and overall quality program to follow once the design is complete. Some current examples in the USA and the world will be presented for context. The final portion presents installation examples, mostly in retrofits followed by some time for questions
