Virtual Reality (VR) is changing the design industry—and the design process—at an exponential rate. Beyond a mere visualization tool, the true power of VR lies in its potential to enhance decision making and optimize workflow. Using case studies of built projects and research and development projects, this presentation will demonstrate how VR can be employed by designers of all types to completely transform their approach to design.
Off-the-shelf design software can often be limiting. Most software tools available on the market today have their own idiosyncratic constraints, and, especially when combined together, cause designers to adapt their workflow to the needs of the software. This leads to needless inefficiency and disruption—design software should work for designers, not the other way around.
In this presentation, Alfonso Oliva will discuss how his computational design team at LERA+ is flipping the script, building and extending custom software to create tools that work for designers, saving time, cost and headache. Through various case studies, Alfonso will showcase the work that LERA+ is conducting to plug workflow gaps and enhance design processes for engineering firms.
