Blast and Impact Loading and Response of Structures
Full Session with Abstracts
A major petrochemical entity in Australia desired to assess the potential impact of blast and fire related hazards associated with the placement of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage bullets and Diesel storage tanks located within the Fly in Fly Out (FIFO) Operations Village of an LNG Project in Onslow, Western Australia.
The FOV site is required to support and house the operations workforce for the main LNG Project and contains several buildings in the vicinity of the storage tanks.
This article will outline the assumptions, methodology and results of the fire and blast assessments for the LPG tanks in addition to outlining the expected impact of the hazards on the surrounding building structures and infrastructure within the site. The study provides a range of recommendations and mitigation measures that may be utilized in order to decrease the expected damage level. The study also assesses and outlines the options for gas leak detection systems in the LPG tanks.
