Mehmet Akçakaya is a McKnight-Land Grant Assisstant Professor at the University of Minnesota. He received his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with great distinction from McGill University, Montreal. He received his Ph.D. degree from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University. He was an Instructor at the Harvard Medical School ( Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center) prior to joining the University of Minnesota. He is a Junior Fellow of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), and was an ISMRM I. I. Rabi Award finalist for his work on accelerated MRI. He holds an R00 Award from NIH and a CAREER Award from NSF. His research interests include MRI reconstruction, cardiac MRI, machine learning and signal processing.
