Ilene Wilets a research ethicist with approximately 20 years experience within academic medicine. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health and an IRB Chair with the Program for the Protection of Human Subjects at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Wilets teaches extensively on human subjects protection regulation and research ethics. Her long-standing interests involve decision-making for research participation, the communication of study risk and benefit, consent voluntariness, public health research, social media research and global bioethics. She has been a member of Public Responsiblity and Research (PRIM&R) for approximately 15 years and is active both as a presenter and conference volunteer.

Dr. Wilets earned her Master’s in Human Learning and Cognition (Psychology) from Teachers College, Columbia University, and her PhD in Measurement, Evaluation, and Applied Statistics (Psychology) from the Columbia Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She received her Certificate in Bioethics and Medical Humanities from the Montefiore-Einstein Center for Bioethics.
