Kristine Shields is an OB/GYN nurse practitioner with a doctoral degree in public health. Women’s health and empowerment issues motivated her career as a women's health clinician and public health professional. Having worked in drug safety and ethics within a pharmaceutical company for many years, she published Pregnancy and the Pharmaceutical Industry: The Movement Towards Evidence-Based Pharmacotherapy for Pregnant Women (2019, Elsevier Academic Press). As a researcher, she published scientific papers in Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Birth Defects Research and other medical journals and is most widely known for her research into medication safety during pregnancy. Dr. Shields has blogged about women’s health issues for BabyMed, Pregistry, and Ms. Magazine. She is now working on books about STDs and contraception, sharing her passion for reproductive health care and human rights.
