Dr. Iafrate is the Chairman of the Institutional Review Board (IRB-01) for the Health Science Center at the University of Florida since 1996. This board oversees nearly 5000 active human research protocols covering the Gainesville and Jacksonville campuses. He has served on this board since 1986, first as a member, as a Vice-Chairman for 6 years, and Chairman since 1997. He has served on several national advisory boards on the topic of human subjects' research. He has coordinated the IRB activities for an international study involving over 23,000 subjects and over 1200 investigators. Dr. Iafrate is presently the full time Chairman, IRB-01, University of Florida, Assistant Director, Research Programs and Services, College of Research and Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy.
Dr. Iafrate has numerous publications including the Collaboratory and PCORNet publication on “The research/QI distinction in practice”. He has given many local, state and national presentations on topics related to human subjects research which includes the IRB Chairs Forum at PRIM&R; and served on the AER19 Workshop Didactic Subcommittee. He developed the "OneFlorida" IRB that collaborates with other Universities in a unified IRB system within the state of Florida.
