As an independent consultant to public health organizations, Dr. John A. Guidry, PhD has used his unique skill for storytelling to create work that gives voice to individuals, organizations, and causes. Trained in oral history and research design, he has worked in public health and community development as a grant writer, program evaluator, researcher, IRB consultant, and movement leader with organizations in Brazil and the United States. His clients include over 20 agencies and organizations across the United States, many with repeat projects over the years. At Gay Men’s Health Crisis from 2010-2013, Dr. Guidry developed over a dozen social marketing and health communications campaigns in print, video, and web-based formats, as well as several HIV prevention campaigns for specific target audiences. He is co-author of Engaging the Community in Decision Making (with Roz Lasker, McFarland Publishing, 2009). As a college professor from 1996-2004, Dr. Guidry’s work focused on children’s rights and community movements in Brazil, where his research resulted in several peer-reviewed articles and a book, Globalizations and Social Movements (edited with Mayer Zald and Michael Kennedy, U. Michigan Press, 2000).
