Cheryl L. Byers joined Moffitt Cancer Center on May 1, 2017, and is the Director for Protocol Review and Monitoring Systems (PRMS) and Regulatory Affairs. Prior to Moffitt, Cheryl worked briefly as a Project Consultant for Huron Consulting Group focusing her efforts and activities on the review and approval of human subjects research for two large academic institutions. Between March 2009-September 2016, Cheryl served as Director and later, the Assistant Vice President for Research Compliance at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. In this position, Cheryl provided oversight to human and animal research programs, as well as other research compliance programs including conflict of interest, HIPAA Privacy for research, export control, facility security, research misconduct, biosafety, radiation safety and scientific diving and boating safety to name a few. Cheryl also served as the Research Integrity Officer for the University. Prior to USF, Ms. Byers worked at Wake Forest University School of Medicine for ten years as both a researcher and in research administration serving as the Director of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for five years. Ms. Byers is certified in Healthcare Research Compliance (CHRC) and has been a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) since 2006. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from East Carolina University and a Master of Health Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
