Tamiko currently serves as Acting Director of the Office of Research Integrity, the HRPP Manager, and Vice Chair of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at SRI International. In this role, Tamiko is responsible for the administrative leadership and direction to all operational aspects of SRI's human research protection program, including overseeing all regulatory affairs of the IRB. In this capacity, she is also responsible for the scientific review of research protocols, post-approval monitoring, policy interpretation and development. SRI, a leader in innovative technology in the Bay Area, provides no shortage of advanced AI research that Tamiko has worked closely with its investigators and administrative leadership on in addressing the various and unique ethical challenges around AI, and how all that fits into the regulatory landscape.
As a former researcher at Stanford University’s Geriatric Research Education Center (GREC), she has published articles on a wide range of topics in Dementia caregiving, aging, bereavement, and stress management. Currently, Tamiko is collaborating on several regulatory research initiatives, including AI ethics, policy development, and surrogate decision makers in research. Tamiko also occasionally blogs for PRIM&R’s Ampersand, authors several Educational Training Modules on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Ethics in medical and non-medical research for the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program), serves as a credentialed judge for the Health Improvement Institute, and is a long-standing member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) and Public Responsibility in Medicine & Research (PRIM&R).
