Mission of this didactic is to educate emergency physicians regarding the structure of T32 and K12 programs, and the elements of a successful application for both programs
Several recent publications and key opinion leader editorials have identified the emergency care researcher pipeline as a critical resource in need of development. T32 and K12 grants are NIH awards available to institutions to support research opportunities for pre- and post-doctoral fellows. In this workshop and panel discussion, representatives from NIH will review and discuss the T32 and K12 mechanisms for providing research training. Specifically, the approach to a successful application for each mechanism will be reviewed. Panelists will include emergency physicians from institutions that have T32 or K12 grants as well as at least one NIH program officer. Time will be allocated for specific audience questions and for individual attendees to talk with the panelists and any NIH POs who are present. This didactic is intended both for those interested in applying to these programs and those interested in developing and leading such programs.
